December 2006 Athlete Profile- Margit MacDougall

When I was first getting into tri's, I went up to Yale's indoor track in the winter to do a workout and first met Margit running hard with the boys (Ron Meneo and Scott Roth to be specific). That was a long time ago and she's still going strong and setting pr's. Her performance at IM Florida last month was inspiring and should fuel her for the next season ahead, reminding her that she not only still has it, but she can also keep striving for more.

I can assure you that was no fluke Margit - there are rarely flukes at IM's anyway.

Athlete Of The Month Profile
  1. Name:  Margit MacDougall, 40.  Married for 13 years to alan.  One terrific son, Ian, almost 2.
  2. How long have you been training for and racing triathlons?  Since 1990, or about 16 years I think.
  3. What is your favorite aspect of the sport?  The great people I’ve met and the discovery of athletic potential I never knew I had.
  4. What do you consider your biggest athletic achievment?  Has to be coming back from the birth of my son to complete Ironman Florida last month with a PR.
  5. What are your big goals for this season?  Not sure if it’s next season or the one after yet, but trying to repeat or improve on my performance at IM Florida, to prove that I really have come back.
  6. What’s your favorite meal?  Either sushi, or a nice piece of fish in a lemon caper sauce with some great vegetables or salad – followed by ice cream of course.
  7. What’s your favorite movie?  Does the Elmo’s World series count?  I think the last movie I saw was Brokeback Mountain – I liked that a lot, had to see it without alan though.
  8. Any other hobbies?  BI (before Ian) I used to enjoy gardening, knitting, and reading, in addition to training.  I hope to get back to these things soon.
  9. If you could visit one place this year, where would it be?  We’d love to go to Hawaii, and some day hopefully we’ll work out all the logistics.
  10. What’s your favorite workout?  A long ride with friends, or any workout that pushes you to a new level.
  11. Who’s your inspiration?  You’ll all think I’m sucking up for some reason, but it’s definitely Eric.  I’ve never met anyone that’s so positive and truly brings out the best in everyone.  I’ve learned a lot about the type of person, athlete, parent and spouse I want to be from Eric.
  12. Any other words of wisdom?  Hokey, but believe in yourself and treat others as you wish to be treated.
