March 2007 Athlete Profile- Bruce Cook

Bruce is one dedicated guy! I give him numerous 4+ hour rides to do on the computrainer as a joke to see if he’d really actually do them, and guess what? He does them! I predict that this year will be a breathrough year for Bruce. He’s talented and certainly has been putting in the work.

Athlete Of The Month Profile
  1. How long have you been training/racing triathlon: 5 years

  2. Favorite aspect of the sport: the unique nature of the triathletes we encounter training and racing.  I love the fact that fellow competitors of all abilities are driven yet not self-absorbed, open to sharing their training and racing experiences to help others perform better.

  3. Biggest athletic achievement: completing an IM.

  4. Big goals: to qualify for Kona and to stay healthy enough to compete for years.

  5. Favorite meal: northern Italian or Japanese cuisine of any sort … or absolutely anything after a 6 hour ride and 1 hour run brick!

  6. Other hobbies: oil painting

  7. If you could visit one place this year, where would it be: India

  8. Favorite workout: Indoor: 5 mile motorpacing repeats on the CT.  Outdoor: tempo runs.

  9. Who’s your inspiration: the 70+ year olds toeing the line at Ironman. I love the tenacity and drive. If only we are all so lucky to be that healthy and engaged!

  10. If you could train with one person for a day, who would that be: Jerry Rice (SF 49ers) or Chris Leigh (1/2 IM champ) – two amazing champions. On second thought, Scarlett Johansson… J

  11. Favorite movie: this is a tough decision- it’s a toss up between Shakespeare in Love and  Pulp Fiction.

  12. Any other observations: Kenny – your new bike is worth a 90 minute handicap at Placid. Baker – you are still in the penalty box after the Ct. Camp, ’06 DVD.   Gus – did you ever make use of the baby oil?
